July 15: Madrid

26 hours of travel is a lot. Like, a little bit unreasonable. I flew Qatar Air and my flight from Brisbane to Doha was around 14 hours 2 and 1/2 hour layover and then a 7-hour flight from Doha to Madrid. Luckily, gracefully, I was able to have Centre aisle seats on the flights, which for me is a more comfortable way to travel.

Hamad airport in Doha is also pretty futuristic…

Hamad airport is living in the future.

I got into Madrid around 8am, so I ended up at my accommodation just after 9:00, which equates to being 6 hours early. In another example of fantastic travel good luck, there was a room available and I was able to get into it, which was much appreciated to freshen up and rest.

Madrid was hot. Like, super hot. Like, at 10pm it was 35 degrees hot. Outrageous. But I had a fabulous day, caught up with a Spanish workmate from Aus for a coffee, walked around, had lunch, and waited out the day until a reasonable hour to avoid prolonging my jetlag.

The most incredible sight after 24+ hours of travel.
Signage in Puerta del Sol.
First lunch! Salmorejo, tortilla, pan y cerveza a block back from Puerta del Sol.
9pm, maybe later. 35 degrees, maybe more…
Great start to the day.
Catch-up with my workmate from Aus, Josh.
