July 17-18: Picos de Europa – Potes, Vada, Fuente Dé

Moving through some verdant hills and the emergence of hulking, mountainous terrain, we enter into the Picos de Europa, which, embarrassingly, I had not heard anything about before researching this trip. I can confidently say now though, that I would highly recommend, regardless of how much of a hiker you are… lots to love!

Mouuuuuuntains.
Brother B being a diligent worker in the midst of paradise. In the town of Vada, our home for the next few days.
Picnic time, and maybe some fruit to balance the meat, cheese, bread and wine. Also, wine.
Nay’cha, in it?
Just hangin´around.
Oldy world charm, and a stream.

Time for breakfast? Checking out the options around Potes, Cantabria. Cafe Wences.

Despite being 11pm at the time of writing, I’m craving some Spanish ham and tomato on toast…

What adventure awaits us today? How about a teleférico up to 1800 metres above sea level? On to Fuente Dé.

Moody mountain
Misty mountaineers.
Holy slug, Batman! Dang!
Into the unknown.

What a view from the top! Ermmm…

Weird to think that this is 1800 metres above sea level… Also, very low visibility.
A sprinkling of saffron flowers…

And then… the clouds parted. Holy shmokes! A sight to behold…

Tough, but healthy.
I love taking photos where the focus is not the ‘impressive’ thing. Enjoy this patch of wild plants. 😉

Check out the tiny teleférico in the distance! And for a livestream of the top of the teleférico, check out: https://telefericodefuentede.com/webcam/

Gosh, big day! Time for some lunch… and a new blog page – this one is getting a bit long. I will say that the steak we had for lunch (local to the region) was in the top 5 I’ve ever had. Looks humble, but so tender. Spain is good at simple food, done well.

Talk soon.
